Born in the Mediterranean-flavored city of Bitola, he is now a leading artist, jazz guitarist and composer on the Balkan jazz and world music scene. Popovski created and developed a new musical expression, bringing oriental sounds in to a mystical language.
A guitarist, composer, improviser and bandleader, Popovski's imaginative, collaborations with international musicians have been heard in the most prestigious venues and festivals in Europe (Skopje Jazz Festival, Rocella Jazz Festival, Musicastrada Festival, Sacz Jazz Festival, Budapest Jazz Club, Clarence Jazz Club, One Jazz Festival etc.)

He has recorded six albums on which he collaborated with numerous Macedonian and international musicians, and he also works as an author of film and theater music.
Balkan jazz has a modern soul; Mario Ferraioli best described the music performed by Saso Popovski in the Jazz In Family Italy magazine with these words. In his compositions, he occasionally plays with the influences of traditional music, and all of this has brought him many accolades. In 2021, the album "Fallen Land" was the first on the regional list of the
best albums in HRT's show Jazzolovka, and that album was also the album of the week on certain lists in Bulgaria, Serbia, Poland and Macedonia.
He is professor at the jazz department University “Goce Delchev” Shtip.
